Please note, the Application process enrollment into Alamo City Barber College requires each student to disclose any prior convictions of a criminal offense (i.e. felony or misdemeanor) other than for minor traffic violation or outstanding traffic/parking tickets. Depending on the circumstance, a background check may be acquired and used as a basis to enroll you into one of our programs.
Please note, an adverse action on your background check does not automatically dismiss you as a candidate here at Alamo City Barber College.
This Admissions Policy is used to define the enrollment requirements for individuals who wish to enroll at Alamo City Barber College as a regular student. Alamo City Barber College must adhere to the U.S. Department of Education, Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation-Barbering and Council On Occupational Education guidelines.
GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Alamo City Barber College is an equal opportunity employer and follows the same policies in accepting applications from potential students. Alamo City Barber College is open to all students without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, creed, origin, sexual orientation, disability or marital status. The admission policy is in compliance with the U.S. Department of Education, Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation-Barbering, Council On Occupational Education guidelines and the Veterans Administration Education Department.
To enroll in any course 300 hours or greater offered by the school, a student must
- Be at least 18 years of age (Age will be verified with Individual’s ID)
- Provide 2 letters of recommendation (from a non-relative)
- Provide a valid driver’s license, state ID with photo, or valid passport.
- Students must also be able to provide proof of appropriate educational requirement such as;
- Copy of high school diploma
- Copy of high school transcript showing graduation date. (Note: The high school diploma or transcript requirement can also be from a foreign school if it is equivalent to a US high school diploma; Documentation of proof of completion of secondary education from a foreign country must be officially translated into English and officially certified as the equivalent of high school completion in the United States.)
- Copy of GED certificate OR
- Have a recognized equivalent of High School Diploma such as a home-schooled certificate by the state where the student resided during home school. Must have completed homeschooling at the secondary level as defined by state law. (Note: Due to the passage of Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2012, students who do not have a high school diploma or equivalent and did not complete secondary school in a home-school setting can no longer gain eligibility for Title IV funds by passing an “ability-to-benefit” test.)
- Provide documentation of eligibility to work in the United States.
- If needed for verification purposes, you must provide a copy of last year’s Tax Transcript (online at www.irs.gov and click on Order a Tax Return or Account Transcript or you may call 800.908.9946 and follow the voice prompts)
- Pay the required Registration Fee of $285.00. ($250.00 Application Fee and $35.00 Student Permit Fee)
- Successfully pass a drug test (at a vendor recommended by Alamo City Barber College) at a cost of $55 (to be paid to Alamo City Barber College). If we have not received the results of your drug test within 72 hours of your initial visit to Alamo City Barber College, your application will not be processed and you will be prevented from enrolling in for a minimum of 3 months.
- Attend the new student orientation program
Please note, we do have Spanish Speaking Instructors, capable of offering one on one instruction.
Alamo City Barber College does not accept Ability to Benefit (ATB) students and does not offer a Comprehensive Transition Postsecondary Program.
The school complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and is wheelchair accessible. If enrolled under training with a government agency, institution district, and/or other entity, students must meet the admission requirements set out in the training agreement and/or applicable state licensing or certifications requirements. *Students may not be accepted for enrollment if they cannot prove credit worthiness. Please see “Method and Terms of Payment”.
The student must make financial arrangements with the Financial Aid Office relating to the FAFSA application, Scholarships and/or a Cash payment plan prior to enrolling.
Prior to admission, the prospective student is given an enrollment requirements form and is given a pre-enrollment questionnaire packet, which they are required to read, understand and sign.
An explanation on attendance and academic requirement will be given to the prospective student and how those requirements can affect the student’s satisfactory performance requirements. The prospective student will be informed that attendance hours may be withheld for non-payment of tuition.
A staff member or instructor will give the prospective student a tour of the school facilities. Any questions from the prospective student will be answered truthfully, promptly and in sufficient detail to eliminate confusion.
COURSES ELIGIBLE FOR FINANCIAL AID
Alamo City Barber is licensed by the Texas Department of License and Regulation to offer the following courses:
- Class A Barber
- Cosmetology Operator To Class A Barber
- Barber Instructor (750 Hour Curriculum)
However, please note: The ONLY course eligible for Title IV Funding at this time is the CLASS A BARBER COURSE and the Barber Instructor (750 Hour Curriculum).
All transfer hours are counted as both attempted and completed hours for the purpose of determining when the allowable maximum time frame has been exhausted and eligibility for Title IV, HEA funding.
Alamo City Barber College is an Accredited Institution. We are accredited by the Council on Occupational Education. As part of the accreditation process, we developed and implement operational and financial management policies designed to ensure our programs yield licensed and employable students. Our policies were diligently audited by an Accreditation Team against the standards set forth by the Council on Occupational Education. The result of the audit is being granted Accreditation in June of 2013: thereby, making us the only Accredited Barber College in the San Antonio metropolitan area. As a result, Alamo City Barber College will not accept the hours of any student desirous of transferring from a Non-Accredited School. Therefore, if a student wishes to transfer from a Non-Accredited School, they will be required to complete the entire program (based on the program length).
However, if a student transfers from a verified Accredited School, the student may receive credit for those clock hours upon reviews of transcripts or other supporting documentation (by the College Instructor or designee), to include the number of hours posted by the state (from which a student is transferring) regulatory body. All students requesting a transfer from an Accredited School should complete a Barber School Transfer Credit Form. Please note, the results of the review are based on the discretion of Alamo City Barber College and do not constitute a guarantee that full credit will be given. If at the discretion of the College Instructor or College Management, credit hours for transfer students will be given; the student will be notified and advised of the payment pro-ration going forward.
For students desirous of making a Program Transfer within Alamo City Barber College, credit hours may be given for hours depending on whether there are similar curriculum items in each program. The determination will be made by the College Instructor or College Management. If at the discretion of the College Instructor or College Management, credit hours for program transfer students will be given; the student will be notified and advised of the payment particulars accordingly. All students requesting a program transfer should complete a Barber School Program Transfer Form.
Please note, Alamo City Barber College is not obligated to accept all transferable clock hours for students transferring from any institution. Nor, is any other school obligated to accept hours obtained from Alamo City Barber College in the event of a transfer. As a result, we strongly encourage you to exercise extreme caution when deciding to transfer to a different school, because of the potential time commitment and financial impacts of such a decision.

- Complete the Enrollment Application by visiting our website at www.alamocitybarbercollege.com and finding the Admissions tab at the top of the page. Next, select the Enrollment Application (highlighted in RED) and complete. Please note, every field on the Enrollment Application should be completed. If a circumstance does not apply, please type Not Applicable.
- Complete a Free Application For Federal Student Aid Form (FASFA) at fasfa.ed.gov. As you work your way through the form, you will be asked to provide a student code. Our student code is 042319. After completing the FASFA be sure to supply it to Alamo City Barber College by fax (210.523.7779), email (email@example.com) or in person at 8910 Bandera Road Suite 209, San Antonio, Texas 78250. After-which will pull your ISIR report and contact you accordingly.
- If needed for verification purposes, you must obtain a Tax Transcript by visiting www.irs.gov. Once you are on the Internal Revenue Service Website find the TOOLS menu (located under Pay Your Tax Bill) and select Order a Return or Account Transcript. Next follow the applicable directions. For those of you without continual access to a computer, you may contact the IRS at 1.800.908.9946.Please note, it will take approximately 5 to 7 business days to acquire your Tax Transcript after you place your order. However, you may still continue with the Admissions process during your wait.
- Acquire an Authorization Form from Alamo City Barber College for the purpose of taking the required Pre-Enrollment Drug Screening Test (At a vendor recommended by Alamo City Barber College). At the time the Authorization Form is retrieved, please be prepared to submit a money order or cashier’s check in the amount of $55.00 made payable to Alamo City Barber College to cover the cost of the test.We will contact you after we have received your “Positive” results and instruct you on how to proceed with the Admissions process. Please note, in the event we receive “Negative” test results or fail to receive your said results within 72 hours, your application will not be processed and you will be prevented from enrolling in any of our Barber Programs for a minimum of 3 months.Please note, we do recognize many prescription drugs have narcotic classifications. Should a test result highlight an indication of a prescribed drug, we would request that you supply the name of the doctor to allow us the opportunity to validate the drug in question was properly prescribed. That being said, we will also request/require that a student not be under the influence of said prescription while in physical attendance at the Barber College
- After we receive your “Negative” results from the required Pre-Enrollment Drug Screening Test, we will contact you and ask that you visit the facility and complete the Alamo City Barber College “Enrollment Agreement” with our Admissions Personnel and then meet with Financial Aid Personnel (if applicable). It is during this visit when you will be expected to provide the following:
- 2 Letters of Recommendation
- 2 Passport Size Photos
- Copy of Valid Driver’s License, State Issued ID or Passport
- Proof of Education High School Diploma, GED, Etc.
- Registration Fee of $285.00. ($250.00 Application Fee and $35.00 Student Permit Fee)
Once we have acquired all of the appropriate documentation, we will then advise you of your expected start date.
TITLE IV ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS RELATED TO ADMISSIONS
Guidelines for Federal Title IV eligibility are as follows:
- Student must have a verifiable Social Security Number
- Students must meet Citizenship and residency requirements:
To be eligible to receive Title IV, HEA program assistance, a student must:

- Provide evidence from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service that he or she is a permanent resident of the United States or
- Is in the United States for other than a temporary purpose with the intention of becoming a citizen or permanent resident or
- Be a citizen of the Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of the Marshall Islands, or the Republic of Palau to receive funds under Title IV Programs
- Selective Service Registration: Men aged 18-25 are required to register with the Selective ServiceMen exempted from the requirement to register include;
- Males currently in the armed services and on active duty (this exception does not apply to members of the Reserve and National Guard who are not on active duty);
- Males who are not yet 18 at the time that they complete their application (an update is not required during the year, even if a student turns 18 after completing the application);
- Males born before 1960;
- Citizens of the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, or the Federated States of Micronesia*;
- Noncitizens that first entered the U.S. as lawful non-immigrants on a valid visa and remained in the U.S. on the terms of that visa until after they turned 26.
- Complete a FAFSA and provide the school with a current ISIR to initiate eligibility protocol.
- Student must comply with the schools Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy included in the school catalog.
- Must not be in default on a loan under any Title IV, HEA loan program.
- Must not have obtained loan amounts that exceed annual or aggregate loan limits under any Title IV, HEA loan program.
- Not liable for any grant overpayment.
- Be enrolled at least halftime to receive assistance from the Direct Loan Program.
- The Pell Grant program does not require half time enrollment, but the student enrollment status does affect the amount of Pell a student may receive.
VETERANS BENEFIT/OTHER FUNDING SOURCES
Selected programs of study at Alamo City Barber College are approved by the Texas Veterans Commission for enrollment of those eligible to receive benefits using the G.I. Bill. Additional funding may be obtained for eligible candidates through many different programs including; Texas Workforce Commission, Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), and Private Scholarship funds. The determinations for these funds are made through the respective organizations.
CONVICTION FOR POSSESSION OR SALE OF ILLEGAL DRUGS
A Federal or state drug conviction can disqualify a student for FSA funds. The student self-certifies in applying for aid that he/she is eligible by using the FAFSA. Alamo City Barber College is not required to confirm this unless there is evidence of conflicting information. The chart below illustrates the period of ineligibility for FSA funds, depending on whether the conviction was for sale or possession and whether the student had previous offenses. (A conviction for the sale of drugs includes conviction for conspiring to sell drugs)

If a student was convicted of both possessing and selling illegal drugs, and the periods of ineligibility are different the student will be ineligible for the longer period. A student regains eligibility the day after the period of ineligible ends or when he/she successfully completes a qualified drug rehabilitation program. An additional drug conviction will make him/her ineligible again.
When a student regains eligibility during the award year, the institute may award Pell and/or Loan Awards for the current payment period.
A qualified drug rehabilitation program must include at least two unannounced drug tests and must satisfy at least one of the following requirements:
- a) Be qualified to receive funds directly or indirectly from a federal, state or local government program.
- b) Be qualified to receive payment directly or indirectly from a federally or state-licensed insurance company.
- c) Be administered or recognized by federal, state or local government agency or court.
- d) Be administered or recognized by a federally or state-licensed hospital, health clinic or medical doctor.
FACILITIES/SERVICES FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
The school complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and is wheelchair accessible. The school will provide reasonable modifications and/or accommodations for students with disabilities depending on the student’s need.
The Students with Disabilities Policy here at Alamo City Barber College provides a hospitable and accommodating arrangement for the teaching and learning practices for students with disabilities. All Programs offered at Alamo City Barber College are accessible to all individuals, including students with disabilities. Our facility; to include classrooms, offices, the practical floor and restrooms has been designed to provide access to persons with disabilities as required by the American Disability Act. Additionally, our facility is equipped with the proper handicap parking to non handicapped parking ratio and if necessary, our landlord has communicated their cooperation with adding more.
Determination of whether a student is qualified for disabled student accommodations will be based upon a documented student need: in addition to capability as decided by College Instructors and Leadership. If a student disagrees with the proper accommodations, the disagreement shall be provided in writing to Mr. Paul Griffith or Jamal Pratt for resolution. It is the student’s responsibility to provide proper documentation of his/her disability. Documentation of the disability must be provided within 2 weeks of identifying an accommodation issue.
Prior to receiving the requested accommodations, the student shall provide Alamo City Barber College with current medical and other diagnostic documentation of the disability from a qualified physician. Determinations of disability include:
- Current documentation of the specific disability
- Proper request of accommodations and services provided for the disability
Please note, it is Alamo City Barber College’s general practice to make reasonable and practical accommodations at our expense for students with disabilities. In some situations, we have purchased additional styling chairs to accommodate a few of our students confined to a wheel chair. Additionally, we have relocated equipment, to include neck strips, paper towels and other items to accommodate students as well. We have made the decision to do this, because we feel it is our responsibility to provide all students (to include those with disabilities) the opportunity to learn in an environment, which addresses their needs.
Note: In order to be eligible for Title IV funding, you must be able to benefit from the reasonable accommodations and be able to take the state board-licensing exam.
